Reiki was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, who was, amongst other things, a Japanese Buddhist monk. He was born in Japan on 15 August 1865. He discovered Reiki when he was taking a 21 day retreat at Mt. Kurama where he fasted, chanted, prayed and meditated. In March 1922, towards the end of his retreat, a great and powerful spiritual light entered the top of his head and he had a satori or enlightening experience. This light was the Reiki energy coming to him in the form of an attunement.
Reiki means Universal Life Force. It is everywhere, limitless, abundant and in-tune with nature. Reiki is part of a whole system that includes healing techniques and self-awareness, development and growth. Similar like yoga, Reiki connects the aspect of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual of a person.
What is a Reiki treatment?
A Reiki treatment combines the Universal Life Force with the warmth and reassurance of the human touch. Reiki is safe, simple, natural, experiential and deeply relaxing, hands-on-healing technique. Reiki is not a massage (but combines very well with it).
Using the energy centers in the palms of our hands, we place them gently and passively in different positions over or on your body which usually begins at the head.
Psychologically, a one hour Reiki treatment is equivalent to four (4) hours of deep sleep. This experience alone makes Reiki a very effective stress reliever.
How does Reiki heal?
We are alive because Life Force (Qi or Ki) is flowing through us in the physical body, through pathways called Chakras, Meridians and Nadis. This Life Force also flows around us in a field of energy called the Aura.
Life Force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of Life Force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more organs and tissues of the physical body. This Life Force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously and unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of Life Force. This will reduce the vital functions of the organs and cells of the physical body.
Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In doing so, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the Life Force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

What do you feel during a Reiki treatment?
Usually, you will feel a pleasant warming heat on and inside the body area that is being treated. This deeply warming relaxation will enable energy blockages within the body to be released and this can show in many ways, such as a desire to continually swallow, cough or sneeze, a rumbling stomach or a gentle rush of energy down the legs. These are great indications that the treatment is working and should not cause any concern.
Most people feel nothing during the treatment because they have fallen asleep, but they will wake-up feeling deeply relaxed and refreshed.
Should Reiki treatment be done in person only?
No. Reiki treatment can be done in person and also online as energy does not recognize time and space. The effectiveness level is as same as if you do it in person. You will also feel the energy works throughout your body.
