The most important and the number one thing that you need before practicing yoga are intention and commitment. You want to be clear of WHY you want to do the practice. Is it for your health in general or is there any specific area you want to work with or any other reasons?
After you find out your Why then you CHOOSE TO BE COMMITTED. The practice will not give optimum result if there is lack of commitment. When you feel like you are losing motivation, just remember your intention again.
